Let the dust settle.

Rewind 6 months.

I’m in Minneapolis. I’m working for the University of Minnesota Athletic Department. I’m loving the vibrant and ever-changing city, my new and old friendships, my closeness to home and the lake cabin, my incredible co-workers , and life in general. Runs around Lake Calhoun and Step classes with Doug, quick trips to see family and friends, Twins games, Happy Hour with co-workers, and busting out some new books fill my weeks. Life is good. Life is really, really good, minus the whole not being “employed for an indefinite amount of time” thing. Details, details.

Fast forward 6 months.

I’m in Charlotte. I’m working for the Charlotte Bobcats. I’m loving the vibrant and ever-changing city, my new and old friendships, my closeness to grad school friends and the beach, my incredible co-workers, and life in general. Runs around Uptown, quick trips to see friends, Bobcats games, girls nights, and busting out some new books fill my weeks. Life is good. Life is really, really good, minus the whole not being “close to family and best friends” thing. Details, details.

It’s funny how life can be so parallel, yet so perpendicular.

To say I’ve had quite the journey would be an understatement. From South Dakota to Nebraska to Alabama back to South Dakota to Virginia to Minnesota to North Carolina, I have become a seasoned vet of the open road. Diet Coke, killer playlists, and phone calls were my saving grace over the thousands of cross-country miles I’ve journeyed (thank you to those that occupied my phone time!) And on every part of my multi-state, various job journey, life has changed in significant ways.

Life in Charlotte has changed in the biggest way. For the first time, I can stand still. Finally.

        I have no timeline.
        No expiration date.
        No end of the road.
And it’s kind of a weird feeling.

It’s nice to finally let the dust settle

I've been on a crazy, yet intentional path. Moving and searching…and moving and searching…and moving and searching…and finally landed in the right spot. Each step has taught me more about what I want to do and brought amazing people to the forefront. And at this point, I know it’s right. I’ve found a profession where the areas I love and the areas I excel in have overlapped. I’m able to use my business and marketing mind to put together sales proposals, my extroverted personality to make new connections and manage existing relationships with Bobcats partners, and my creativity to sculpt new client activation ideas. It’s been a long time comin, but ya know what? I’m ready for all that is to come and loving every minute!

Life can seem uncertain, even if you’re certain you’re supposed to be exactly where you are and are loving what you’re doing.  Do I miss Minneapolis? Absolutely. Every single day. Do I miss being close to family? No doubt about it. But it’s the risks you take and the opportunities you seize that show you what you can truly become. Sometimes it takes a long and winding path for God to show you what’s meant to be. It may not be easy or perfect, but it’s worth it.

So throw some dirt on your trail. Buckle up. Keep journeying to find your destination. And when you finally find it, let the dust settle and enjoy. Truly enjoy.
